Position Description

The Shelter Coordinator provides onsite support to the shelter programs, the Shelter Manager, and Shelter Program Specialists. This position provides leadership and guidance to a team of Shelter Program Specialists, under the direction of the Shelter Manager. The Shelter Coordinator is responsible for handling day-to-day operations regarding facility needs, licensing compliance, team needs and shelter client needs. In addition, this role may provide shelter shift coverage, requiring trauma-informed intervention services to support the healing of families, individuals, and children that have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, and the aftermath of such victimizations, including human trafficking and youth homelessness.

Responsibilities
Leadership
  • Provide leadership, mentoring and direction for assigned shelter teams, including but not limited to: onboarding of new shelter staff; assigning work tasks; reinforcing shelter policy and procedures with staff and clients; handling challenging client situations; and other related tasks.
  • Coordinate the general maintenance and upkeep of the shelter premises with shelter team, Shelter Manager, and Operations Manager, including but not limited to, supply inventory, maintenance and safety inspections, menu creation, and identification of other shelter needs.
  • Regularly attend staff meetings, leadership meetings and any required trainings; facilitate team discussions to build alignment and efficient service delivery
  • Participate and attend regular trainings related to licensing regulations
  • Provide initial and ongoing technical assistance and training related to program operations
  • Initiate and/or maintain communication with community partners, as needed and directed by Shelter Manager.
  • Provide communication of care among and not limited to; guardian, school, and Child Protective Services, when applicable (Youth Shelter).
  • Assist in compliance monitoring and site visits of Community Care Licensing regulations (Youth Shelter).
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Direct Service

  • Role model day-to-day living skills with shelter clients, including but not limited to, meal preparation, laundry, housekeeping, and other appropriate habits; provide supervision to clients in the shelter; ensure appropriate shelter conditions, including but not limited to, cleanliness and supplies; ensure appropriate implementation of shelter procedures and/or any licensing regulations; provide in-person and over-the-phone intervention services to prospective and current clients, such as crisis intervention and peer counseling.
  • Participate in staff rotation of back-up shift coverages.

Supervision

  • Supervise assigned shelter teams, including but not limited to: onboarding new team members; assigning work tasks; reinforcing policy and procedures; mentoring and conducting 1:1’s; addressing and responding to personnel matters; and other related tasks

Administrative

  • Executes comprehensive and detailed documentation, and performs other administrative tasks, as necessary, to support both program operations and role responsibilities, including but not limited to, file and other documentation audits, quality assurance and quality control, data entry review, and other related tasks.

  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and, at times, stressful environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent and relevant work experience; minimum 2 years experience working in domestic violence and/or youth shelters.
  • Successful completion of Victim Assistance Training (within six months).
  • CCL Rules & Regulation Experiences (or completed 40 hours of training w/in 3 months of hire)
  • Fingerprint clearance required.
  • Reliable transportation, valid California Driver’s License, and proof of insurance (unless otherwise specified).
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend up to three flights of stairs throughout a typical workday.
