PREVAIL Holds Sexual Assault Awareness Campaign during the month of April

PREVAIL Sexual Assault Logo

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). Sexual violence is any sexual activity where consent is not obtained or not freely given. It impacts every community and affects people of all genders, sexual orientations, and ages. The perpetrator of sexual violence is usually someone the victim knows, such as a friend, current or former intimate partner, coworker, neighbor, or family member. It can occur in person or through technology, such as posting or sharing sexual pictures of someone without their consent, or non-consensual sexting. The National theme of this year's campaign is: Drawing Connections: Prevention Demands Equity.

This year, we are asking the community to help us raise awareness in multiple ways:

Join Us:

Join Teal Day on April 4th

Wear teal, the color of sexual violence prevention. Whether it's a ribbon, shirt, or accessory, show your support by sharing your teal look and tag PREVAIL on your social media.

Teal Sand Project

PREVAIL, formerly Women's Center Youth & Family Services, is inviting authorities, organizations, and partner agencies to bring awareness and open dialogues by displaying our Teal Sand Project! PREVAIL is providing the sand, posters and our team is joining each partner to fill the cracks or grout in the sidewalk, main entrance, or courtyard at the various locations. This campaign is being highlighted through the month of April in our social media.

Donate:

Denim Day, April 26

PREVAIL is inviting the community to join in this fundraising opportunity. Everyone is encouraged to wear denim on April 26th and donate $10. All donations made to PREVAIL will go to provide services to individuals impacted by sexual violence.

The term "sexual violence" is an all-encompassing, non-legal term that refers to crimes like sexual assault, rape, and various forms of sexual abuse including sexual harassment.

  • Every 68 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted.
  • Every 9 minutes, that victim is a child.
  • 2 out of 3 sexual assaults go unreported.
  • Females ages 16-19 are 4 times more likely to be victims of rape, attempted rape,
  • or sexual assault.

PREVAIL continues its effort to bring real hope for eliminating the tragedy of sexual violence to create a future where all women, men, and children can live free from violence and exploitation.

Between July 2021 and June 2022:

  • WCYFS responded to more than 75 sexual assault calls
  • Served more than 800 participants affected by sexual assault
  • Served more than 100 minors involved in sexual exploitation
